Between the Popups

April looks like a busy month ahead. Between rinsing off pollen of my car every morning and afternoon and transferring seedlings into pots and plots, there is the preparation for my Destination Books popups. This includes bringing in some new books, “that may interest” and restocking seasonal favorites.

Fortunately, I am able to combine tasks while at the Wylde Center Plant Sale in Oakhurst on from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday April 3rd and 4th. Not only will I have a booth set up on the porch of their new building, but I may do some personal plant shopping as well.

As you may know from a previous posting, I start seeds early using a technique I learned at the Wylde, but removing the seedlings from the milk jugs to 3-inch pots is a delicate procedure. I feel like one of those top chefs on a cooking show who daintily decorate their dishes with all kinds of embellishments (much more than adding a sprig of parsley on the side with an orange slice).

This transfer requires concentration and dexterity (neither are my strengths), but in the right frame of mind it can be kind of meditative.  And who can’t use some calming during these tumultuous times?

However, there are casualties. Fortunately, whatever plants don’t make the transition from seedling to the garden can be replaced at the Wylde Center plant sale because they will have a wide range and number of plants.

And who will be the wiser if I purchase a replacement lavender or yarrow plant for my garden?

Just you, of course.

Note: Destination Books will also be at the Freedom Farmers Market on Saturday, April 25th.
