I am not sure where I spent more time this summer—working at the community garden OR writing about the community garden. Either way the results are about the same – some limited success with mostly colorful flowers but a few more weeds than I would care to admit. (Guess which picture is from my garden plot.)
You can be judge by checking out my essay “Battling My Ambivalence at the Community Garden.” This is my thirteenth piece for Tropics of Meta: Historiography for the Masses (list here.)
Coincidently, I will be at the Wylde Center Fall Plant Sale in Oakhurst on Saturday, September 12th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with my popup Destination: Books. I will have copies of the books by Rebecca Solnit and Kate Brown which I write about in the essay.
And for the record the community garden that I refer to in the piece is NOT the one of the spaces that the Wylde Center manages. But we can talk about other things. Sometimes Destination: Books popups become almost what I call a “green salon.”
