On Wednesday, August 5 from noon to 4:00 p.m. and Thursday, August 6 from noon to 7 p.m., Destination Books will have a pop-up at the DeKalb History Center in the lobby of the Historic DeKalb Courthouse in downtown Decatur.
I will be bringing my standard travel-related books and long-form essay books (not gardening how-tos) that I carry at other venues. I am also bringing vintage books that I have a longtime interest in — history and military books, especially my “collection” of Civil War books since I was –and I am not embarrassed about revealing this — a boyhood Civil War buff. This meshes well with some of the books that the History Center is offering from their collection.
On Thursday evening (8/6) the History Center is keeping their doors open for an after-hours Happy Hour and an opportunity to see exhibits, including Peter Ressick’s photography exhibit on Memorial Drive, which is well worth checking out.
Books sales will go to benefit the History Center’s upcoming exhibit Together which is scheduled to open on September 25th.
October Workshop
I appreciate the support the DeKalb History Center has given my book A Father’s Letters: Connecting Past to Present. Coming up, I will be with Tamika Strong, Manager, of the Reference and Research Division at Auburn Avenue Research Library for a workshop. “Discovering and Preserving Family History.” It’s a two-hour workshop beginning on Saturday, October 10 at theHistoric DeKalb County Courthouse.
